No need for statisticians if that wasn't the case. In my own work, I have concentrated on looking at signals that have a much larger dynamic range so that these issues do not even come up. So I think models of oil depletion are useful and those of CO2 persistence. Notice that the skeptics never touch those kinds of topics?@whuthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18297101284358849575noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8524070301101240472.post-33476648025571948982011-02-13T02:49:12.753-08:002011-02-13T02:49:12.753-08:00Harry, you'd be wrong. O'Donnell shows the same. The main differences are not as big as McIntyre et al are trying to make you believe. Not the first time he exaggerates things (the red noise - hockey stick another example, as well as Yamal).Marcohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07262670367947223521noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8524070301101240472.post-17160618922402581602011-02-12T20:59:16.239-08:002011-02-12T20:59:16.239-08:00Your analysis appears self-serving and is scientif...Your analysis appears self-serving and is scientifically incorrect.

Steig attempted to use novel statistical interpretations on scant Antarctic data. The results of his efforts (S09) appeared on the cover of Nature and gave the impression that the Antarctic had caught fire.
The novelty here was that the majority of Antarctica was seen to be warming.

O'Donnell showed that this "warming" was an artifact of the incorrect mathematics that Steig employed. The continental warming disappeared and Antarctica reverted to what was understood prior to S09.

All the novelty in S09 also disappears with this correction.Harryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14330195950964591956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8524070301101240472.post-22142516750880032132011-02-12T18:10:30.153-08:002011-02-12T18:10:30.153-08:00Michael,

Unfortunately the right doesn't want to reinvent science management. This may not be a good place for somebody who reports on trends in global warming science. I would suggest something with a danceable beat.

As to the article....did you just say that you can't get high level statisticians to referee the math on climate change papers? Follow the economists example; make up your own math and then test the model against reality. Then break with economists and discard models that don't work.Pangolinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18369503994505817789noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8524070301101240472.post-37381898634446181692011-02-12T11:47:30.098-08:002011-02-12T11:47:30.098-08:00...get slandered, Weasel
