Much more at http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2010/08/18/notes081810.DTL#ixzz0x0fheoPh.Wouldn't it be horrible if all this stunning, insanely mounting, irrefutable evidence -- death, floods, fires, heat waves, the worst this and the most violent that in 1,000 years -- were some sort of surefire, cumulative sign that we have, if not directly caused, then wildly accelerated and amplified the imminent implosion of this planet?
But we didn't! And we haven't! And we aren't! I mean, whew.
I am delighted to remember that hardcore science has lied, misguided, misnomered and whatever else weird science does to confuse the world about the real impact humanity has had on global ecosystems. All those thousands of highly trained scientists educated at the finest universities, learning the most difficult and fraught information of our age, all in universal agreement that humankind's actions directly affect climate change, and they are all totally full of it because they are clearly in cahoots with Nazi Liberal Jesus, the solar panel manufacturers and the hippies who want me to compost my KFC Double Down wrapper.

Thank God Global Warming is a Hoax!
Mark Morford writes in the SF Chron today:
On the other hand, you'd think it would be the easiest thing in the world to tell the difference between "muslims" and "complete f&ckhead mass murdering criminals", but that appears to be taxing for those opposing the two-blocks-away-from ground zero mosque. Who knows how people's minds work?
ReplyDeleteLuckily, the end of Ramadan falls on... yup, 9/11. Global muslim celebration timed perfectly to feed the Republican monster.
Apparently there'll be at least one koran burning on the same day - by the Dove World Outreach Center. They have a jolly funny way of trying to reach out - and I can't help but wonder what would happen if anyone burned a bible.
Given all that, I'm somewhat less surprised by some people's inability to distinguish "scientist" from "shill commie fraudster." The only thing I can think to do is just to carry on saying exactly that - jeez, you guys really can't tell your arse from your elbow, can you?
Sorry, just made the same mistake I was attacking: I'm sure there are plenty of decent republicans out there. Just wish they'd be a bit more outspoken. Watching the US from afar at the moment is pretty scary. Maybe it's not all that bad and the media's warping my view...?
ReplyDeleteNo Dan, sorry, it's worse. There are decent Republicans but they aren't allowed to participate in any discussion.
ReplyDeleteAs a Republican-voting Christian who has been very outspoken on communicating the science of AGW/climate change and it's human causation, I can assure you of this:
ReplyDelete1. Good, decent Republicans do exist but
2. Most have been brainwashed by the GOP (Grand-Oil-Party) line, er, the conservative talking heads that orate "there's no problem"...
As a result, like most of humanity, they are concerned most with their own daily lives & the engoing struggle to both relieve life's tedium and also find something entertaining in what daily passes for programming in the morass of mindless television. And it is with deep resentment at being woken up from their slumber that they receive ill the dire news we preach.
And make no mistake: it is most dire. As we clean up the aerosols and pollutants from the air causing the solar dimming that has been retarding the rate of warming thus far, the rate of warming increases like a freight train careening downhill...
I leave you with the question of which is the greater force:
1. The inexorable thermal inertia of the oceans transporting their absorbed heat to the Arctic (and thinning the ice cap there & increasing the mass-loss of Greenland's ice sheet)
OR
2. The human capacity to resist change in the face of all reason
This will not end well, I fear. :(
