Yes, and if you watch the video, it certainly appears as if he wishes he had never said it. But he pretty clearly never published it, and there isn't anybody else who said it, so write it off as a mistaken blurt by a single person, please, and don't be tarring the whole of science with it.

This seems like a foolish thing to have said given Britain's latitude.
